Exploding TV and The Long Tail

There’s some great discussion going on between Jeff Jarvis, Chris Anderson and Steven Johnson about the future of TV that’s worth a look. All of them cite Mark Cuban, who’s also thinking about the distribution of media in the near future and it both worries and excites me (Full Disclosure: I work for a cable network).

With all the talk about RSS distribution through enclosures, podcasting and Videora, it’s nice to see these gentlemen take the next step and define the fact that TV might leap ENTIRELY off of actual cables and satellites in the near future. Your next living room might be a home media server (the Mac Mini?) wirelessly connecting to all your media streams and displaying them on a brilliant, HD flatscreen monitor (no need to call it a TV anymore).

A boy can dream, can’t he?
