Candy Review: Take 5

Take 5 is the newest candy bar produced by Hershey’s. The allusion to a quick, relaxing pause a la Reese’s Fast Break is likely not a coincidence since both are Hershey confections. Both products are essentially mash-ups of all the most common sweet ingredients with an emphasis on peanut butter. Heck, Take 5 has peanut butter and peanuts.

To get even more granular, Take 5 consists of pretzels, caramel, peanuts, peanut butter and milk chocolate. 5 main ingredients. Take 5. Clever in it’s straightforward simplicity.

A co-worker of mine made the comparison to Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, which I’ve mentioned here before. I think the comparison is accurate since pretzels are the star here, as they are in Chubby Hubby, taking the place of the nougat. They are the main attraction anchoring the candy experience. For lovers of sweet and salty, this is your new favorite indulgence.

The best part about Take 5 is the dual bar packaging, similar to the two bar approach of Almond Joy and Mounds. You get two small candy pieces as opposed to one bar. This decision is great because Take 5 is thin, not unlike a toffee bar such as Heath or Skor. Plus, you feel like you’re getting a little something extra because there are two pieces instead of one.

All in all this is a wonderful new candy bar. Sure to keep your salty jones sufficiently satisfied in the absence of a Snickers.
