Jenn and I only watched a half hour (8:15 – 8:45) of The Muppets Wizard of Oz last night. I thought it was fine and funny. She thought that people shouldn’t mess with old classics of either the Oz or Muppet variety. I almost didn’t tell her about the planned sequel to The Dark Crystal, but figured if she was in the mood to complain about Kermit and gang, she’d love piling on about another Henson creation.
While I think it will be great to see his work continue, I would also prefer that new creations see the light of day. Things like the fabulous puppetry of Farscape are much more interesting. But, since The Dark Crystal always was a bit, well, darker than most of his other creations, it should be fine. I just won’t be counting on Jenn watching with me.
Raelyn is another story. She loved The Muppets Wizard of Oz while it was on. I think it’s almost time she watched Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal herself. Or maybe we’ll buy Fraggle Rock or The Muppet Show on DVD for her. Yeah, for her.
