Potter Preparation

Technorati’s blog has a post today about the upcoming 6th book in the Harry Potter cycle: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Depending on how you look at things, I’ve either failed to plan or planned to fail, since I didn’t pre-order the book. Doing so now seems kinda silly since the release date is only two days away. I’m thinking I’ll just stake out the local Barnes & Noble on Saturday afternoon. We have another 2-year-old birthday to attend so we’ll be out and about.

Two asides:
1) Jenn still hasn’t read Book 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
2) I downloaded the audiobook version of Book 5 and put it on the iPod for us to enjoy while we were on vacation, but we never broke out the iPod. For any reason. Weird.
3) Dottie bought the audiobook on CD for the exact same reason. We didn’t listen to that version either
4) I really need to work on my counting skills.

UPDATE: Per the comments, I’m well aware of the new Pope’s stance on Harry Potter which really isn’t that different than the previous Pope’s opinion, it’s just more tersely worded. As I’m not a Catholic, it really doesn’t matter one whit to me what some wizened German dude in robes and big hat thinks, so I’ll happily plunk down my hard-earned cash for the new Potter. Damnation be damned!

  1. Nice blog. Keep it up …

Sorry for posting an off topic question here but I think this particular one has a profound impact on our society.

The Pope says “Harry Potter corrupts the young, distorting their understanding of the battle between good and evil”. In a way, he is saying “Harry is Evil, Potter is Satan!”

Well, we know orthodox Christians also despise Uncle Santa Claus and all those at DisneyWorld, do you fancy a world without Cinderella, Snow White and Mr. Mickey Mouse?

What for? When we were kids we had the best imaginery life ever. We dreamed about Cinderela Snow White, Sleepy Beauty… Even I’m older now, I like to watch these movies again and again… Do you?

  3. Even my fundamentalist friend admitted, upon actually reading the darned books, that these books are more about friendship and moral decision making than witches or Satanic anything at all. Actually, there’s no devil of any sort, but lots of evil. And lots of good. – Amy

  4. HP and the Half-Blood Prince – copy arrived

No, don´t worry, I am not posting any spoilers to the Half-Blood Prince , mainly because I have just only started into chapter two and cannot really spill or spoil anything yet.
Fortunately I did not have to get in any kind of frenzy or have to…
