Latyr

The working title of the novel I’m writing for National Novel Writing Month is Latyr. The very loose plot I’m working on involves an introverted young man pulled into adulthood by a sexually adventurous woman.

The story ultimately leads to an accidental death and a some freaky/kinky relationship issues based on the Greek mythology of Maenads and Satyrs, devotees of the cult of Dionysus.

Maybe things end well or maybe they don’t, but I’m doing the old sexual awakening as first stages of manhood novel. Not that cool, but I think I’ve got enough bangles, baubles and beads of creativity to give it wings.

Here’s the quote I’m using as Latyr’s opening stanza:

Main Entry: sa·tyr
Pronunciation: ‘sA-t&r, chiefly British ‘sa-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin satyrus, from Greek satyros
1 often capitalized : a sylvan deity in Greek mythology having certain characteristics of a horse or goat and fond of Dionysian revelry
2 a : a lecherous man b : one having satyriasis

-Merriam Webster

I’m also seriously considering “publishing” Latyr as part of the blog. WordPress allows you to create “static” content pages as subdirectories, so it could live at /latyr with each chapter as a subdirectory – /1, /2 and so on.

We’ll see. I just wanted to keep everyone informed
