The cost of Television

If Cablevision really does offer a la carte pricing for it’s cable subscribers and Apple really does start offering streaming video, what will television cost?

Apple currently charges $1.99 for a music video or an episode of Lost.

“Basic” cable costs somewhere between $40 and $60 a month.

So what is the cost of television in the year 2006? Will you be buying per-channel/network or per-show or both? Neither?

And what would you pay for all of this?

I’m more than happy to get the biggest cable and broadband internet package my provider, Charter, has to offer. I figure that even if I don’t watch all the TV (and I do with two TiVos), I make up for it in high-speed internet.

But what will the new television economy be? Someone tell me, please.
