Spore!

Almost exactly a year ago, Wil Wright spoke at the Game Developers Conference (I believe it was this session on content in games) and showed off his upcoming game, Spore. I had asked Jenn to attend his talk and take pictures and video. While she didn’t have the time, someone else did and the internet is the benefactor. [Via BoingBoing]

If you’re not one who wants to listen to the entire hour-long presentation and you just want to see gameplay, YouTube has that video (Google Video has it too). I’m pasting it below as well, but it’ll likely take a long time to load. Click the link if you’re the impatient type.

If you’d like to get a taste of the gameplay first-hand, Andy “Waxy” Baio points to Flow in Games, a thesis project of Jenova Chen of USC. It’s a great game and definitely shows the potentially of open-ended gameplay, evolution and simplicity. It may not have all the user input wizardry of Spore, but it whet my appetite nonetheless.

There you go. Happy Friday!

Additionally, since Jenn is attending this year’s GDC, I’ve made another request for photos and video. Fingers crossed this time. (Hopefully she can see the value of content like Wil Wright’s speech)
