Better Way

All the war talk with Iran has me bummed out. I’m just fed up with our current administration and I don’t have any more eloquent way to put it.

What I do have is music, and I’m not talking about that new Dixie Chicks single. I’ve got Ben Harper’s newest Better Way:

i’m a living sunset
lightning in my bones
push me to the edge
but my will is stone

fools will be fools
and wise will be wise
but i will look this world
straight in the eyes

what good is a man
who won’t take a stand
what good is a cynic
with no better plan

reality is sharp
it cuts at me like a knife
everyone i know
is in the fight of their life

take your face out of your hands
and clear your eyes
you have a right to your dreams
and don’t be denied

i believe in a better way

I mean, honestly. The weather is getting better. The internets and blogs are full of promise. I have a wife who loves me and a gorgeous daughter.

I don’t think the song speaks to policy or politics or any of that. It speaks to attitude. It speaks to people. It speaks to me.

Enjoy this embedded video (hit the site if you’re an RSS/APWBWGTTD reader).

Ben Harper

Incidentally, I’ve heard this song on three local FM stations, which says something about good music being pervasive and crossing genres.
