If you use the word “wing” as a verb – ex: I was just about to wing that guy in the face (substituting “wing” for “punch” or “hit”) – what are the past tense forms?
My gut tells me you’d say “winged”, but I like the more poetic, irregular approach.
I’d treat “wing” like the ever-popular and oft-misused “sing” (sang/sung).
I sang in a musical last night.
I wang (perhaps wanged?) that asshole with a frying pan last night.
She sung the aria beautifully.
She wung the nunchucks around her body like two deadly and alluring paper fans.
See what I mean? It’s just better as an irregular verb, either past or past participle.
Anyhow: everybody wang, wung tonight.
😉
