Book Review: Bad Twin

I’ve been threatening to read and blog about Bad Twin for a while. The time for action is now.

Ok, so I’m not going to spoil any big plot-points, but I will give you a general overview:

  • If you like Lost, Bad Twin is not remotely the same
  • This is a quirky detective novel that speaks with its own unique voice.

I actually think it reads quite a lot like Anonymous Rex in tone, especially the protagonist’s sense of humor.

  • Names have been changed to protect the innocent
  • You’ll recognize some place names and some of the players in the larger Lost scheme (Hanso, et al) but for the most part they’re all Greek to me.

  • Islands
  • Everything in the Lost universe, it seems, happen on islands. Bad Twin is no different, with no less than 5 islands playing a part in the story.

  • Heroines and Villainesses
  • Women are key to the storytelling, progression and resolution of the story.

    I’ve said too much already.

SPECULATION: Penelope Widmore or some other off-island female will be the key to the whole Lost story.

    Or perhaps Libby. We’ll see.

So Gary Troup’s Bad Twin won’t set the world on fire, but it will entertain you.

It’s full of all the intense navel-gazery (mine!) that makes watching an episode so intriguing/frustrating.

Philosophy neophytes beware, it’s not for the faint of heart. But the mystery and romance and humor should all seem familiar enough, if not entirely recognizable.

Kinda like seeing a ghost or someone’s twin (I had to).

Oh, and I’ve likely contradicted myself twice in this post, but that’s Ok.

Lostpedia entry, for the truly obsessed.
