Chauffeur Me
September 21st, 2006 by Seth

SCENE: This morning, in the car, on the way to work. Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer plays on the radio (Dave FM).

Me: Is he saying “Chauffer Me” or “Show for me” here?
Jenn: What does “Chauffer Me” mean?
Me: What does “Show for me” mean?
Jenn: I think it’s probably “Show for me”.
Me: I’m asking the internet*

The proof of my tin ear:

Ive kicked the habit
Shed my skin
This is the new stuff
I go dancing in, we go dancing in
Oh won’t you show for me
And I will show for you
Show for me, I will show for you

I think my version makes sense in the context of the sexual/romantic undertones of the song.

Seriously.

Chauffeur Me.

*I would normally say “I’m blogging this” but it seems tired. Maybe I’ll retire the t-shirt as well.

He sings one of my favorite songs, Here Comes The Flood. I love his voice so much!

So and Us are both amazing albums.

I had a college roommate who was obsessed with him (and Billy Joel, but that’s another story).
