Literary Tuesday

I’m feeling especially lazy today (Jenn is home sick, I have meetings all afternoon, you get the drift), so I’m stealing a meme from Alecia.

Sadly enough, despite minoring in English, I’ve never read A Prayer for Owen Meany.

Time to add it to my Amazon Wishlist.

You’re A Prayer for Owen Meany!
by John Irving
Despite humble and perhaps literally small beginnings, you inspire
faith in almost everyone you know. You are an agent of higher powers, and you manifest
this fact in mysterious and loud ways. A sense of destiny pervades your every waking
moment, and you prepare with great detail for destiny fulfilled. When you speak, IT
SOUNDS LIKE THIS!

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Funny. I was going to post the other day on my Agnosticism but also on my (lower-case) faith.

UPDATE: If I wasn’t exactly clear, I actually feel like this is a fairly accurate accounting of my personality.

  1. If you want it, I can loan you the book. Despite an ending that seems to have little to do with the first two thirds of the book, it’s still one of my faves of all time.

Whatever you do, however, do NOT watch Simon Birch as a substitute for reading this book. Okay, you probably didn’t know that the movie about the little invalid was even based on this book, but it is. It’s a schmalzy piece of tripe. It has some endearing moments, and it’s nice to see some visuals of the characters, but it turns a serious novel about destiny and courage into a kids’ movie.
