Comic Book Movies

So I’ve been meaning to post on the upcoming slate of comic book movies – most released in the next year or so – ever since Comic Con, but I’ve been busy and I don’t really see that many movies anymore.

How exciting could it be for a non-moviegoer and semi-regular comic reader to talk about comic book movies? This exciting.

Watchmen:
I think this film has almost a 100% chance of not living up to fans’ expectations (mine included), plus some aspect of the story has been mined during the first season of Heroes.

That said, it’s still one of the best comic stories I’d want to see adapted for the screen. The more people who know of this story – in any form it takes – the better.

Who would you cast?

Iron Man:
Hate what Marvel has done to Tony Stark/Iron Man in current continuity. Don’t even read any Marvel (or DC) books for that matter, but if you’re going to do this character with this characterization you could do worse than Robert Downey Jr.

Black Sabbath in the trailer is about as subtle as a man becoming a fighting tactical missile so I guess it fits. Plus, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Samuel L. Jackson, Hilary Swank and Terence Howard mean it’ll at least be well-acted. Or paycheck. Who knows.

The Dark Knight:
Christian Bale/Christopher Nolan are back with Maggie Gyllenhall and Heath Ledger as The Joker. Can’t wait. No reservations.
