Wasted Cycles

Everyone wastes time, whether we want to admit it or not. Just the other day I wasted time at work watching a video which was supposed to help me figure out how to get more done. Synergy, no?

Today, under the guise of “research” I played a few flash games and watched an episode of The Office on NBC.com. Competitive tracking, indeed.

But the real zenith of my sloth, the apex of my low productivity (if you can stomach the juxtaposition of terminology) is my inability to finish my novel for NaNoWriMo.

It got started; it sat.
It sat some more; I went on vacation.
I added two paragraphs; it sat even longer.

Now it’s a day before deadline and I’m happier with the drivel I wrote – but wrote consistently on a day-by-day/week-by-week basis – last year, as opposed to the well-planned but poorly-executed crap I have now.

Bonus points though for using Google Docs to write our Christmas Letter and my Christmas List. At least I’m high on holiday productivity.

Still, I can’t help but wonder if I’d only use my work time, home time and “free” time better, I’d have all facets of my life sparking.

Oh well, maybe I’ll just play WoW tonight instead.

Demotivation, my anti-drug.
