Not sure why I landed on this topic on a rainy Friday February morning, but I did.
Here’s my personal list. I’m sure I’ll think of a few more after I post.
Feel free to correct and guide me.
- The Kinks – Lola
- Blur – Girls & Boys
- Green Day – Basket Case
- Bob Seger – Turn The Page
- Aerosmith – Dude (Looks Like A Lady)
The best example of the sub-genre (hence it’s spot). Ray Davies’ tale of a lad who befriends a transvestite is subversively catchy.
Wikipedia sez: “Lead vocalist Damon Albarn’s withering putdowns of trendy pansexuality and aimless hedonism satirise the party culture in the UK, where groups of youths go on holiday to places like Faliraki and Kavos with the sole intention of getting drunk in the local night-clubs.”
Misheard lyric: “I went to a whore HE said my life’s a bore.”
Actual lyric: “I went to a whore who said my life’s a bore.”
All the same old cliches,
“Is that a woman or a man?”
Blatantly obvious bloated 70’s rockers masquerading as 80’s hair rockers poking fun at themselves. Echoes of Seger, sans beard.
