Specs & Effects

Thanks to the fine folks at Warby Parker, I’m getting new glasses soon.

I’ve been without my second set of eyes since Fall of 2009 when I lost a lens on a camping trip. Go figure.

I actually just tossed out my very old titanium frames and thought it was time to take the plunge. So the eye exam is this Friday and five pairs of try-on frames are in the mail. Hopefully I like one style enough to keep them and return the rest.

Warby Parker just got written up in the New York Times in the past week, but I’ve had an open Chrome tab with their glasses for several months. All their frames are $95, they do free shipping both ways (even on the try-on frames) plus they donate a pair for each pair you buy. Pretty cool model.

In addition to sending you free frames to try they also have a pretty cool virtual try-on tool. I downloaded the results but I hope to have better pictures of the actual frames on my face (these are the 5 frames I chose) very soon.

With any luck I can get my prescription filled and have them in the Warby Parker frames of my choice by Valentine’s Day.

Go ocular health & style!

  1. You look good in glasses. If we’re voting, I think the first two squarer frames look the best, but what do I know? I have the hardest time just picking sunglasses–I get how clothes work (even if I don’t make the right choices for myself) but have a harder time understanding what frames work with what faces.

Alecia also needs new glasses. Like you, she broke or lost a pair, and then just never got new ones for YEARS. I think she has an appointment soon. I’ll forward her the Warby link, as the model and price both sound good.

Just randomly stumbled on to this blog – saw this and knew I had to say something, but without a doubt the Huxleys.
