Musiq

11 Jun 2002 In: Non Sequitur

Today I’ve been working mainly from my PC, so I’ve had the headphones
on. What this really means is a lot of time finding streams for Winamp on SomaFM or ShoutCast.
I was looking for something to distract me from my rut of listening to
the new wave of Punk bands that have been my staple, mainly The Strokes
and The Hives. What is with Punk bands and their self-destructive band
names? Anyhow, I ended up listening to a lot of ambient and jazzy
techno. Light on the lyrics and easy on the ears. Easy listening music
for the recently drugged. If I had a sequencer and some vinyl I could
be a star, or very likely persuaded into thinking I could be a star if
I’d get off my ass. Sorta like I feel now.

Avoidance

I keep getting this strange feeling that I’m avoiding some task or
obligation. I can’t really describe the full extent of this feeling,
but I’m starting to get all philosophical about it, as if I needed help
there.
Now I’m beginning to wonder if I’m avoiding seeking my real destiny (as
a writer or songwriter or whatever) in order to feel safe. Or maybe I’m
avoiding extra lawn maintenance; I just don’t know.
For whatever reason, I have this feeling and there you have it. Kind of
like some sick Jiminy Cricket reminding me that I need to follow
through with my dreams once I open my eyes.

Proved wrong

I’m not as lazy as I thought; I did some laundry yesterday. Jenn was
happy and now we both have clean underwear.
Tonight’s the night we sell the 4Runner to Carmax. I’ve got to go get a
certified check from the credit union to cover the remaining balance of
our car loan. All in all, it should be a fun and sad evening.
This weekend we mow. It seems like all I ever talk about is mowing, but
just wait until you become a homeowner. (I sincerely apologize for
writing that last sentence; I must have been channeling my dad.)
I’ll try to keep up my un-slack ways and write this weekend.

lazy

I’m so lazy, I didn’t even post yesterday. Today won’t be much better.
Jenn is at a company shindig, so I’m home alone tonight for a while.
I’ve written some new poetry and I’ve got some chord progressions
sketched out, so I may record some new music. Speaking of which, I will
upload the mp3s in the near future. This time I’m serious.
While we’re on the topic of music, I want to ditch Fruity Loops and
find another more robust piece of software. I can’t afford Pro Tools,
but I’d like something more than your average looper/sequencer/midi
tool. I’m willing to spend around $100; any ideas?
That’s all for me now. My laziness knows no bounds. I’ll make a big
deal out of it when I eventually post more music and poetry.

Slack

I haven’t updated since Friday, there are still no Mp3s on the site,
and I haven’t registered with any search engines. I’m fairly certain I
have an audience of 3 (my Mother, Father, and Wife) and the stats bear
this fact out. Overall, I’m fairly pleased that I haven’t stopped
writing altogether and just given up - it can be an ardurous process to
come up with topics to write about each day.
The long weekend went extremely well, a lot of driving though. Jenn and
I bought a new Toyota Highlander on Saturday, we spent Sunday with my
folks and Monday with her folks. Over the course of 3 days we had
Bruster’s ice cream twice, played lots of dominoes, swam in the pool,
celebrated Marty’s birthday and ate two great meals. I’m happy there
aren’t more holiday weekends in the year or I’d be dead.
I’m sleepwalking through the day since we have to pick up the new car
tonight. Wish me luck.
