Part Mop. Part Puppet. All Crazy.
Jenn and I worked our way through a monster “to do” list this weekend.
The impetus was the fact that we had friends over Sunday evening, but
in reality they just needed to be done.
Rather than enumerate every list item here, I’ll just sum up the whole
experience by noting that WebMD estimated taht we burned almost 2,000
calories a piece on Saturday! Whew!
Sunday we did some straightening and light lifting, but nothing like
the fence-fixing, lawn-mowing, house-cleaning day that was Saturday.
(So I lied about hte enumeration business, mostly just so I could type
enumeration again.)
Victoria and Dave came over yesterday evening for Bubba Burgers and
Dominoes and left happy. They really liked the house and didn’t mind
the rare burgers - I’m still learning the ropes of the new grill.
All in all, it felt like the weekend lasted longer than two days, but
somehow I’m in need of another one right away!
Is the modern, fast food burrito really Mexican food? I ask only
because Jenn and I drove 30 minutes out of our way last night to eat Qdoba.
I suppose we coud have eaten at Willy’s Mexicana Grill, but it’s just
not the same. Why is that?
I suppose both fall into the category of California-style burrito
joint, but Qdoba is just better. Honest.
But neither is truly Mexican food, if you catch my drift. So tonight
we’ll probably dine on real Mexican food produced by actual people of
Mexican descent and ancestry: The Border.
I’ll admit it. I was running late this morning.
Jenn had left at 5:15 to go to the YMCA and work out with her coworkers
Becky and Victoria and I overslept. There, I said it. Happy now? Good.
As a result of my tardiness, I rushed my normal shaving ritual while in
the shower and unintentionally trimmed my goatee a little closer than
anticipated. I took a chunk, roughly fingernail-width in size, out of
the lower right-hand corner. It sucked and I knew it almost instantly.
I looked down at the razor blade to see 1/4 inch hairs where there
should have been 1/16 inch hairs. What a dumbass!
I’ve taken some corrective measures, by bringing the underside of the
goatee in closer to my chin, but it’s still noticeable. I give myself
until Monday before it grows back. Still, a total bummer. Not the way
to start my day, especially when I was holding out hope I’d get to work
early.
Oh well, at least I’m playing basketball today.
Jenn and I are now using WebMD
to track our fitness. We’ve added our weight goals, excercise and diet
so we can stay on top of our weight loss. If there were a way for me to
show everyone my progress without divulging my password, I would. I’ll
keep the blog in the loop though.
In the meantime (did anyone else just flash on Space Hog?),
here’s what went down tonight. Jenn and I both did the stepper. Her:
over 2,000; Me: 1500 and I lifted some weights. Fun, fun, fun (and now
it’s the Beach Boys.
Later.
Last night: 2.4 miles on the trail.
We went walking after a mysterious “pop-up thunderstorm” had blown
through. Of course, no one was on the trail. They were all probably
stuck at one of Atlanta’s many flashing yellow lights - people here
treat them like four-way stops and it makes me nuts. The only upside
was the lack of traffic on the trail; we let Lucy run and she loved it.
Another perk of the bad weather was that Jenn had already made dinner
when I got home. She was worried we’d lose power, so the house was full
of the aroma of teriyaki chicken and burning candles. She was rightly
concerned about us losing power and so had lit every candle she could
grab.
Her fears were well-founded. We briefly lost power twice while eating,
but the real bummer is that we lost cable. That’s right cable. Thank
god for TiVo.
We watched some saved shows and listened to the Braves on the radio,
but it really sucked to have no live TV or Cable internet access the
entire night. Stupid cable was still out this morning when I left for
work. I’ve called twice and have been assured that everything will be
copacetic by this evening. We’ll see.
