Lost: The Other 48 Days was a really excellent episode that went by all too quickly. My thoughts, as always, are below:
- The Wizard of Oz opening sequence.
Anyone else think the tail section landing in the ocean was like the house falling on the wicked witch? - Goodwin.
I think if you were paying attention closely enough, you had him figured as the “other”, though Nathan was a close second. Also, does anyone else get the feeling that he would have told Ana Lucia more if she’d have let him talk? Lastly, what would he have done if he went alone into the jungle with the radio? - Boone’s loose end.
Glad to hear Bernard on the other end of the radio. I completely appreciate Ana Lucia’s position, but that was too cool. I want to re-watch ‘Deus Ex Machina’ just to hear Bernard’s voice over the plane radio. - Eko as Christ figure?
40 days of silence (a vow)? One of those chosen to be taken by the “others” on the first night because he was a “good person”. Is he some kind of shaolin warrior shaman or something? - The second Dharma hatch.
Goodwin didn’t look like he knew about it. The logo featured an arrow. Another allusion to an astrological or star sign? Orion’s bow perhaps? - Ana Lucia killing Shannon.
The perfect ending. Tense, quick cuts that lead up to a tantalizing preview. - Running over by 4 minutes.
Not cool ABC or Lost producers. I expected better of you. Shouldn’t you treat your most loyal and fanatical fans better? Plus, couldn’t you have found a sponsor and done a commerical-free episode? That would have made more sense and the 48 days wouldn’t have seemed so rushed.
Not perfect, but very good. I want some tail section flashbacks next week. I’m very curious to see a joint Rose/Bernard flashback and I’d like to learn more about Libby.
As far Ana Lucia, I think she and Eko need to be handled slowly, just like their counterparts Jack and Locke.
Again, if you need a Lost Dharma Initiative T-Shirt, I’m your man.
Sagita…the arrow. It’s a constellation closely associated with Sygnus the swan in its mythological origin (also associated with Apollo).
I think Goodwin would have told her everything, given the opportunity, but I also think he knew she wasn’t about to give him one.
As for the extended veiwing time, they’ve been advertising that all week.
Neat little nod to Ethan with Nathan being from Canada. For a whole commercial break Iwas trying to decide what Canada was up to.
Good summary.
The only thing is we don’t really know what “NOT A GOOD PERSON” means. Given the OTHERS penchant for killing, I tend to think it wasn’t meant in the tradition of Good and Evil, (which I thought originally but rewatching the episode, I don’t think it is) but something more on the lines of GOOD for a purpose. Goodwin did “hypothesize” on the first day they took the strongest to leave them unprotected. It sounds like they were going after Eko for that reason… just a guess though… It could very well be good and evil.
I wonder why the Arrow facility wasn’t as stocked as the Swan is. More importantly, did they find another movie… the one in the swan said 3 of 6.
I agree with the commercial free, but they did advertise it was extended. They did this a lot last year… totally screwed up my DVR a few times.
I am looking forward to next episode… You know a show is good when after each week it frustrates you because it leaves you hanging. Can’t wait to see what happens with Ana and Sayid.

Sorry for the double post. I got a wierd message when I posted so I tried under another name. My bad.
I totally agree that while re-watching the clues for Goodwin were there all the time. (Although Ana’s comment that he was dry when he came out of the jungle wasn’t one of them. After all, some of the tail-section survivors didn’t crash in the water. And neither did Bernard for that matter.)
By the way, there is a Russian adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz”, in which the wizard’s real life name is “Goodwin”. A clue maybe as to who was the impostor?
