A while back I posted about a flock of birds that voraciously devoured the summer bugs flying above our driveway. After consulting a Father’s Day gift, Georgia Bird Watching: A Year-Round Guide, and surfing the web, I think I’ve found the culprit.

The Ash-throated Flycatcher (Myiarchus cinerascens) seems the most likely answer. Despite the fact that the only Flycatcher native to Georgia is the Great Crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus crinitus), the Ash-throated Flycatcher has been sited in the state. Of course, it could be some other variant Flycatcher, but I’m almost certain it’s the Ash-throated species.

While the pictures I’ve found aren’t 100% identical to the specimens we saw, they are close enough. Until I can take my own photo and put it here, I’ll just have to be satisfied with the current diagnosis. Maybe I’ll snap a few pics with the new camera once it arrives.
