The heir to Bubble Bubble on the NES was the classic Neo-Geo arcade hit Bust-a-Move. I probably spent hundreds of dollars at the Tate Center arcade playing that damn game and loved every minute of it.
I have a version of this game for GameCube and I’ve always planned to have it in my MAME cabinet, but until then I’ve got this cool flash version of Bust-a-Move to keep me happy. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon.
There’s a great Open Source clone along the same lines called Frozen Bubble. A warning though, it’s more addictive than crack.

Wonderful! If anyone needs me today, I’ll be playing Frozen Bubble.
