The Silver Comet 10k

When we went to the Silver Comet Trail on Saturday I picked up a registration form for the Silver Comet 10k. I’m no runner, unless you count basketball, but I think it would be fun to compete in this type of event on my “home turf”. The race is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier and our friends Dave and Victoria competed last year, with Jenn, Rae & I as their cheering section.

I have no idea if they’re planning to run again, but being a longtime Atlanta-area resident with no Peachtree experience is making me feel like a slacker. I’m a (relatively) healthy guy who exercises; I should be able to run for 10k, right? I have no grand delusions about actually qualifying for the Peachtree, but I think I’d do pretty well. Plus, it’ll be a great incentive to buy some new shoes (we’re going out this afternoon for basketball shoes anyway) and step up my workout routine – currently basketball on Tuesdays and Thursdays and weights on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I just have this feeling that it was a sign that I found that form. I need to take this opportunity to kick some ass for myself, my wife and my daughter. Wish me luck. I’ll probably need it.

UPDATE: No race for me. My brother’s wedding shower is that same date and Jenn will be coming back from GDC after spending the better part of the week away from home. Not the day to run a race on a lark.

  1. D’oh! I got all excited about you (possibly) turning into a runner 🙂

Victoria is training a girl-armada to run the Rock and Roll half marathon in Virginia Beach. You should consider training for that! She’s got a training plan and everything. It should be a good time.

  2. Sadly, my brief flirtation with the world of competitive running (for fun & profit!) has ended. So closes another chapter in my life. I think I’ll stick to playing pick-up basketball games at the Turner Athletic Club. Better for my ego and my complexion.
