Sure we’ve all heard the news (and perhaps seen the evidence) of pop-up or billboard advertising during TiVo fastforwarding, but this is different.
Today TiVo announced a new “service” that will let users subscribe to advertising via keyword searches or subscriptions. Basically, you’ll be able to watch promotional and advertising content in the same way you watch entertainment. Fun!

My take: this development is a great thing. People already trade and search for good advertising online (think IFILM Viral Video), so why not give TiVo users an easier interface to finding and viewing it?
Also, hopefully advertisers will utilize the subscription data (if users let them and if TiVo provides it) to make better, funnier, more engaging advertising.
